Heading for the ocean

After loading ourselves with fresh produces from the Chaudron Magique, among which half a dozen of Cabécous (goat cheese), we ride westbound towards the first ocean of our journey.

We slept on a parking lot in the Landes before arriving the next day in Mont-de-Marsan.
Flat horizon of the Landes!
After finding a café with a open-use computer, we take a two-hour break to update the blog. Next to us, a pilgrim from Holland waits his turn patiently. Since our route happens to be more or less the same as the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostella, we meet a good number of them on our road.

We hit the road again but have a hard time riding out of town without ending up on a highway (we succeeded, though :-) ). At dusk, we arrive in Mugron where a newly built stadium with a nice roof is awaiting us. In order to do things (more or less) correctly, I try to find the address the person responsible for the stadium to ask him the permission to sleep there. Finally, we get an unofficial authorization to sleep and even use the water taps. During the night, a heavy storm hits the region and it feels great to sleep outside without being soaking wet, while watching the lightning.

The next morning, we enter Biarritz, where we spot the first ocean of our journey. We decide to sleep on the beach, which turns out to be a wrong decision since the rain wakes us up at 3am... We pack everything in a hurry and start riding (we could have pitched a tent, but for some reason we didn't think about it...)

Arrival at dusk in Biarritz...

...with a well-deserved cassoulet (unavoidable when travelling through this region) !
Próxima estación: España.
